David Dinsmore joins Government Communications as Permanent Secretary
Vital role of Communications highlighted with the appointment of David Dinsmore as Permanent Secretary, Director for Government Communications.

In this newly created role, David will lead Government Communications (Gov Comms), the professional body that oversees communications activity across all government departments and agencies.
Strategic vision for modern communications
David will be responsible for developing a new communications strategy that responds to the rapidly evolving media landscape, including the rise of artificial intelligence, new digital platforms, and changing public expectations.
The position ensures stronger leadership, accountability, and coordination across government communications. Based in the Cabinet Office, David will work closely with No 10 Downing Street, departmental Directors of Communications, arm’s-length bodies Heads of Comms and other senior leaders across government.
On his arrival, David said:

About David Dinsmore
Prior to joining government David held senior editorial and commercial roles in the news media industry in London and Scotland. Most recently he was Chief Operating Officer at News UK, a post he held since 2015.
His extensive experience across traditional and digital media platforms, combined with his leadership of major commercial operations, brings valuable insight to government.
David’s appointment strengthens the Government Communication Service’s capability to deliver clear, effective communications that support the delivery of government priorities and maintaining public trust at a time of huge technological and cultural change.
