What is Advance?

Members of the government communications profession have exclusive access to our flagship development programme, Advance. 

The programme consists of: Apprentice, Practitioner, Expert and Leader, and has been uniquely designed for government communicators, supporting their professional development at every stage of their career.

Advance Apprentice

Our apprenticeship programme is designed to attract diverse, external early talent into government communications.

Advance Practitioner 

An online programme providing a strong professional foundation for those early in their careers. It also serves as an essential tool for experienced practitioners to sharpen their skills and keep pace with the rapid evolution of the communications environment.

Advance Expert 

A development programme specifically aimed at Grade 7 members and senior managers. It combines in-depth learning with the opportunity to connect with fellow professionals and gain valuable insights from industry thought leaders. Learners are required to attend a five-day SkillsCamp and two-day Learning Festival.

Advance Leader 

A 15-month blended programme for Grade 6 members and Deputy Directors, focusing on leadership in government communications. Learners will earn a postgraduate diploma in strategic communication leadership after completing the programme.

Certification

The learning completed as part of Advance will be assessed. Members will receive certification to recognise their achievements and support their development and career journey.
