Our values
Like any community, we have a set of core values that underpin how we work and the behaviours we expect from our people. These values help create a sense of belonging, strengthen connections across the profession, and encourage everyone to play an active part in our shared goal of delivering exceptional communications.
We are committed to being:
- Honest – open, ethical, and transparent in everything we do, acting with integrity and doing the right thing at all times
- Innovative – encouraging the free exchange of ideas, embracing new ways of thinking, and recognising that every experience, including setbacks, offers an opportunity to learn
- Respectful and kind – treating everyone with dignity and worth, valuing different perspectives, and actively supporting others to learn, develop and thrive
- Collaborative – working in partnership to achieve shared goals, sharing knowledge and good practice, and making sure every contribution is valued
- Accountable – taking ownership of our actions, welcoming feedback, and resolving to put things right when they go wrong
Inclusive working
Diversity of thinking and representation is essential to how we work. We cannot communicate effectively with people across the UK unless we draw our talent from every section of society. We are committed to creating a profession that truly reflects the communities we serve, drawing talent from the widest range of geographical, social and career backgrounds.
We are building an inclusive environment where different views, backgrounds, and experiences are not just welcome but recognised as essential to our success. We know that diversity of thought leads to more innovative communications and better understanding of the audiences we serve.
Building our profession
We are committed to building a profession that people can join and develop with from anywhere in the UK. Roles outside London are increasing, regional communities are growing stronger, and all communicators have equal access to training, development, and career opportunities regardless of where they work.
By building stronger regional communities, we create opportunities for our people to connect, learn and grow together. Our communicators can also collaborate across organisational boundaries through our community forums, sharing local insights, and contributing to the innovative thinking that makes our work more effective.
Through outreach activities including careers fairs, workshops, work placements, and virtual information sessions, the profession also inspires the next generation of communicators – building awareness, confidence, and the skills needed to pursue a career in government communications.
