Explore the new look Government Communications website, updated with clearer guidance, simplified navigation, and enhanced accessibility for all users.

Today we’re launching the refreshed Government Communications website.

We are delighted to introduce the new look Government Communications website, which has undergone a major redesign along with our member platform, Connect. This is our soft launch before the full launch in September.

As the professional body for government communicators, our goal is to deliver world-class communications standards. Our updated platforms bring our digital presence fully in line with modern web publishing standards, user-centred design and improved accessibility.

Driven by user research

Our previous website design was built back in 2020 and had accumulated a vast amount of content over the years. With an outdated site structure, out-of-date guidance, and a look that no longer matched our new brand or modern web standards, finding relevant information had become a real challenge for users.

To fix this, we launched an overhaul aligned with our updated branding. Every single piece of content has been thoroughly audited, reviewed and updated. Through extensive user research, we have also designed a new layout around real user needs – making it easier for our members, and public visitors to find content more easily and quickly.

Key improvements at a glance:

  • Streamlined content: We’ve consolidated over 900 pages down to just over 160 clear, accessible, and high-impact pages (legacy content has been archived safely with the National Archive).
  • Enhanced accessibility and AI readiness: The public site is fully optimised for screen readers and structured for easier scanning by AI tools, using clear titles, page bylines and clean formatting.
  • Action-led navigation: Find content quickly with our revamped navigation and high-visibility search features.
  • New ‘Browse resources‘ library: All content is now organised within a filterable hub tagged by type and topic.
  • Consistent brand experience: A fresh, modern visual aesthetic brings a unified new look across both our public site and private member areas.

A collaborative delivery

This transformation was achieved at nil cost through cross-government collaboration. Led by our internal teams, the build relied on dedicated developers and skilled volunteers joining through our Switch placement programme.
