In an age where AI-generated media is becoming indistinguishable from reality, maintaining public trust in government communication is more critical than ever.

We’re trialling ‘Content Credentials’ on some of our digital content. This helps you check that what you’re seeing is genuinely from government and has not been misleadingly altered.

Why we’re doing this

AI-generated content and deepfakes are becoming harder to spot. You need to trust the information you get from official government channels.

Over the next few weeks, we’re testing Content Credentials technology on some of our digital content.

What is Content Credentials technology

Content Credentials is a label attached to digital content. It shows:

  • who created the content
  • where they produced it
  • which tools and editing processes they used

How we’re using Content Credentials

Content Credentials let you, journalists and fact-checkers verify that content comes from government and has not been changed in a misleading way.

Using free tools like Adobe’s Inspect tool, you can instantly check:

  • who created the content
  • whether someone edited it or used AI to generate it
  • whether it came from an official government channel

We want you to trust what you see from us. Testing these credentials gives you a practical way to check the origin and integrity of our content.
